A Cripps Barn Wedding – Gemma & Mike
Gemma & Mike’s late‑spring wedding at Cripps Barn had that unmistakable Cotswolds feel — relaxed, full of warmth, and centred entirely around friends, family and good conversation. The barn was glowing with soft spring light, guests gathered around the fire, and the whole day felt easy from the moment it began.
I’d photographed Mike’s sister’s wedding a few years earlier, so turning up already knowing half the family meant I could slip straight in. That familiarity changes the energy straight away — people relax faster, forget about the camera, and just get on with enjoying the day.
My documentary approach has always been shaped by experience. Early on, I saw how much of a wedding day could be lost to formality — long posed sessions, interruptions, moments missed. Digital photography opened the door to something very different: the freedom to quietly observe, to keep shooting without restriction, and to record everything that happens in between.
At Gemma & Mike’s Cripps Barn wedding, that meant capturing congratulations as they happened, laughter by the fire, and the subtle, fleeting interactions that often go unnoticed. No stopping the day. No pulling people away. Just letting the story unfold naturally resulting in candid photos that capture the moment that will reflect your wedding as it is.

Wow what a day! Thanks Mike & Gemma for letting me be a part of your special wedding day. 🥂
Cripps Barn Wedding Photography – FAQs
Is Cripps Barn good for relaxed, natural wedding photography?
Yes. Cripps Barn is ideal for documentary wedding photography. Its intimate layout and welcoming atmosphere encourage genuine interaction and unposed moments throughout the day.
What time of year works best at Cripps Barn?
Cripps Barn works beautifully year‑round. Spring and summer bring softer natural light and longer evenings, while autumn and winter weddings are incredibly atmospheric around the open fire and Cotswold landscape.
Is Cripps Barn dark inside for photography?
The main bit of the Cripps Barn has a warm, ambient feel, whilst the wedding breakfast area is light and great for any wedding party. I’m very comfortable working in low light and only use flash discreetly later in the evening if needed, keeping the atmosphere intact.
Where are the best photo spots at Cripps Barn?
Everywhere! There are literally 100’s of ideal places to photograph, be it inside or in the expansive grounds surrounding the actual barn itself.
