If you’re planning a wedding at Owlpen Manor, you’ve already nailed the venue decision. It’s romantic, atmospheric and an absolute dream for candid, documentary-style wedding photography. Every corner looks like it’s been curated by a very enthusiastic period-drama set designer.
Now lets talk about the weather. Now, most people dream of having a sunny wedding, However did you know rain on your wedding day is actually a blessing?! I know this doesn’t help your mindset, but hopefully what I am doing in this blog is making positives out of what seems a negative!
One thing you can’t control on your wedding day is the weather! Nevertheless, building up to your wedding day, you (and your family and friends), will be checking the long-range weather forecast… Then, as the day comes ever closer, the short-range weather forecast! In each instance, there is absolutely nothing you can do about the weather. Often weather forecasts aren’t localised, and the predicted all-day rain turns into showers, or, even better, none at all. But you will have stressed (often unnecessarily!), that your wedding day is going to be ruined by rain. I totally get it; we all want a sunny day, whereby we can just enjoy the whole wedding outside with family and friends and bask on the lawn in the glorious sunshine. But, if it does rain at key points on the day, there is nothing you can do about it!
In reality, rather than focussing on the bad weather, we should be actually enjoying those moments. Ultimately, if it rains, you get more time relaxing with family and friends indoors. I get more candid wedding photographs. Honestly, it’s not all doom and gloom. Personally, I come prepared. I’m used to photographing weddings throughout the year, come all seasons, so not only do I bring lights (so if needed we can do family photos indoors), I also bring a wealth of experience, and able to be flexible to change and adapt to things that are out of my control.
On Georgia & Steven’s actual wedding day at Owlpen Manor, the forecast was bad, really bad! We went with it, and throughout the day the rain stopped hammering it down for a few minutes, just so Georgia and Steven could go outside and grab a few moments together in Owlpen’s stunning grounds.
The truth is, if it wasn’t lashing it down, Georgia and Steven were ultimately happy, as they had all their friends and family together, in one room in this beautiful Cotswolds wedding venue. They focused on enjoying their party in the medieval Cyder Barn, making the most of the historic interiors for their reception and dancing. And those quick outdoor moments? They became intensely romantic and utterly unique Owlpen Manor wedding photos. Let the party commence!
