Stooped in history Syrencot dates back to 13th Century. More recently however (in WW2), it was interestingly used for operational purposes, as it stands next to Sailsbury Plain. It became a “house of secrets” reputedly as a centre for some kind of espionage activity, although no official confirmation to that effect was ever given!
More recently however, Syrencot has had a change of use, been painstakingly redeveloped and is now a wonderful intimate wedding venue.
From a photography point of view, Syrencot works beautifully for candid, documentary wedding photography. Its light-filled interiors and contained outdoor spaces encourage real interaction — exactly where the strongest moments tend to happen.
Hayley and Azmi, booked me after stumbling across my website. They were after a wedding photographer who would capture their day as it was, rather than take over. They’d seen from the photographs (from wedding blogs like this) the candid, storytelling approach suited them.
What really matters is celebrating your commitment and spending meaningful time with the people you’ve chosen to share it with. Many of your guests will have travelled a long way to be there, and you should have the freedom to enjoy their company without feeling rushed or pulled away.
When I photograph weddings at Syrencot, my approach is always relaxed and documentary-led. I focus on quietly capturing the emotion, energy and atmosphere as it naturally unfolds, blending in and letting the day flow. I won’t take you away for long stretches of posed photos or interrupt moments that matter. Your wedding isn’t a photoshoot — it’s a celebration — and the most powerful photographs are always the natural, unforced ones.
I met up with Hayley and Azmi, who were both a mixture of nerves and happiness on this stunning May day…
