Discover some of the best wedding venues in Gloucestershire, from beautiful Cotswold barns and historic country houses to stylish hotels and unique wedding venues around Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester and beyond. A guide from Gloucestershire wedding photographer, Ben Roberts of Blooming Photography.

If you’re looking for the best wedding venues in Gloucestershire, you’re in a pretty good part of the world to be searching. From beautiful Cotswold barns and historic manor houses to elegant hotels, country estates and some wonderfully different city venues, Gloucestershire has something for pretty much every type of wedding. As a wedding photographer based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, I’ve photographed weddings at many different venues across the county. And while a venue obviously needs to look good, I think there’s more to a great wedding venue than simply having a nice building. The atmosphere, the way the day flows, the spaces your guests can use and the opportunities for natural photographs all make a huge difference. So, rather than putting these into a strict 1–20  ranking, here are some of the best wedding venues in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds that I’d recommend couples consider.

1 – Kingscote Barn – Tetbury

Large group shot outside at Kingscote Barn.
If you’re looking for a classic Cotswold barn wedding venue, Kingscote Barn is difficult to beat.

Kingscote Barn is one of those venues that immediately screams Cotswold wedding.

Hidden away in its own valley near Tetbury, the venue combines beautiful Cotswold stone barns with countryside, gardens, a lake and plenty of space for guests to enjoy themselves.

It’s also particularly useful if you’re having a wedding where lots of your guests are traveling from outside Gloucestershire because there is accommodation on site for 50 of your guests. There are so many different areas to photograph your wedding, from the top lawn, linhay, one tree hill, rose garden or even the nearby lake. The backdrop of the gorgeous Cotswold countryside surrounds every photo! Best for: Couples wanting a relaxed, quintessential Cotswold barn wedding, on-site accommodation. 2 – Manor By The Lake – Cheltenham

If you want your wedding venue to have a bit of wow factor, Manor By The Lake certainly delivers. Located in Cheltenham, this Victorian manor house is surrounded by gardens and a lake, creating plenty of different settings throughout the day. It’s a flexible space as you are able to have your wedding either inside the gorgeous Maximillian Room or outside in the grounds. It’s particularly good from a photography point of view because you can get completely different photographs without travelling anywhere. Grand architecture, gardens, lake, pathways and countryside — all within the same venue. And for me, variety is important because I want your wedding photographs to tell the story of the whole day rather than looking like you’ve stood in front of the same backdrop 200 times. Accommodation wise it ticks lots of boxes as it’s able to accommodate 24 people and of course Cheltenham is on hand to look after the rest of your wedding guests. Best for: Elegant weddings, beautiful gardens and couples wanting a more luxurious feel. To see more check out this Venue Guide of Manor By The Lake

One thing that’s stands out is that The Barn at Upcote is that it is family run. Hannah and the team will literally do their upmost to ensure that your wedding day is exactly as you want it as they genuinely care about your special day. I’ve photographed lots of weddings here and really like the way the venue allows guests to mingle and enjoy themselves rather than feeling as though everyone is being marched from room to room. The Barn at Upcote is a brilliant Cotswold wedding venue for photography, with loads of variety all in one place. You’ve got beautiful stone barns, the courtyard, secret gardens, coutryside views and plenty of little corners that work brilliantly for natural candid photos. Based near Gloucester, this working farm provides a proper countryside setting and is particularly suited to couples who want their wedding to feel like a celebration rather than a formal production. That’s something I really like. Milton End Barn is also currently listed among Gloucestershire’s established barn wedding venues. Accommodation wise it has 9 self catering holiday home style cottages, which can fit up to 30 of your guests. Best for: Informal countryside weddings and couples wanting a relaxed atmosphere. If you’re looking for a wedding venue in Gloucestershire that’s a little bit different, Matara at Kingscote is right up there! Tucked away in the Cotswold countryside near Tetbury, Matara is surrounded by beautiful gardens, woodland, lakes and some wonderfully unusual architecture. It’s certainly not your typical Cotswold wedding venue — and that’s part of its charm. The gardens have an almost other-worldly feel, with water features, sculptures, bridges, mature planting and hidden corners that give the venue a really individual character. From a photography point of view, The Matara is brilliant because there’s so much variety, inside, each room feels like you are entering another world and its also the same for the outside, working particularly well for couples who want their wedding to feel personal and intimate. From a photography point of view, there’s plenty to work with too. The barn, surrounding countryside and outdoor spaces give me lots of opportunities to photograph the day naturally, without constantly pulling you away from your guests. Set within the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside, this historic 17th-century barn has recently had a makeover, giving it a fresh new look while retaining the character and charm that make it such a special wedding venue. The new look effortlessly combines old-world Cotswold charm with modern green credentials and stylish social spaces, creating a venue that feels traditional without feeling stuck in the past. You’ve still got the beautiful stone, exposed beams and historic character, but with a more contemporary feel throughout. One of the things I really like about The Great Tythe Barn is the amount of space. Tucked away in the Cotswold countryside near Temple Guiting, this beautiful historic manor combines traditional Cotswold architecture with stylish interiors, landscaped gardens and a wonderfully intimate atmosphere. It’s particularly suited to couples looking for a more private wedding celebration rather than a large, traditional wedding venue. If you’re looking for a beautiful Cotswold barn wedding venue, Stone Barn is a great choice. Set in the Gloucestershire countryside, it has that classic Cotswold feel while offering a relaxed setting that works brilliantly for couples who want their wedding day to feel natural and informal.

For couples looking for wedding photography at Stone Barn, the combination of beautiful Cotswold surroundings, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of character fits perfectly with my style.

Best for: Couples wanting a relaxed Cotswold barn wedding with beautiful countryside, plenty of character and natural, storytelling wedding photography. Downsides: Sadly zero accommodation, however nearby Burford / Cheltenham have bundles.

18 – The Swan Inn – Bibury.

Bride and groom with Arlington Row in the background
If you’re looking for a Cotswold wedding venue in Bibury, The Swan Hotel is about as quintessentially Cotswold as it gets. Sitting on the banks of the River Coln in the heart of Bibury, this historic former coaching inn combines beautiful surroundings, traditional character and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. And then there’s Bibury itself. Often described as one of the most beautiful villages in England, it’s famous for its honey-coloured Cotswold stone cottages, pretty river, little bridges and, of course, the iconic Arlington Row — one of the most photographed streets in the Cotswolds. Arlington Row is just a short walk from The Swan, making the village itself part of the wedding experience. The Swan has a lovely riverside garden which provides a beautiful setting for wedding photographs and outdoor ceremonies. The garden includes a charming Summer House, which is licensed for ceremonies, and the River Coln runs alongside the hotel, adding plenty of character to the setting. Inside, the hotel retains plenty of its historic charm, with cosy interiors, open fires and a choice of spaces for ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and evening celebrations. The Signet Room provides space for larger celebrations, while smaller rooms are available for more intimate weddings.

Accommodation at The Swan Hotel

One of the big advantages of choosing The Swan for a wedding is that your guests can stay on site. The hotel has 22 bedrooms, with a mixture of rooms in the main hotel and garden cottage accommodation. There are also private garden cottages, including one with its own hot tub, giving couples and guests the option to make a proper weekend of their stay in the Cotswolds. That makes The Swan particularly appealing for weddings where guests are travelling from further afield. Rather than everyone disappearing off to different hotels after the reception, you can stay in the heart of Bibury and continue enjoying the village and surrounding Cotswolds the following day.

A wedding in the heart of the Cotswolds

The combination of The Swan Hotel, the River Coln and Bibury village makes this a particularly special location for a Cotswold wedding. You have the elegance and comfort of the hotel, the beautiful riverside gardens and then the wider village — including Arlington Row — right on the doorstep. It’s a venue where the location really becomes part of the wedding rather than simply providing a backdrop. Best for: Couples wanting an intimate or relaxed Cotswold wedding in Bibury, with riverside gardens, historic character, on-site accommodation and one of the most famous villages in the Cotswolds right outside the door. To see more take a look at this Wedding Guide at The Swan, Bibury.

19 – Calcot Hotel & Spa – Tetbury

Candid photo of bride and groom at Calcot Manor holding hands and chatting as they sit on a garden bench, with autumnal yellow leaves from the pleached tree's behind them.

If you’re looking for a luxury Cotswold wedding venue near Tetbury, Calcot Manor is a beautiful choice. Set within 220 acres of Gloucestershire countryside, this historic estate combines traditional Cotswold character with a relaxed, contemporary feel.

The estate has a real sense of space, with the historic manor, restored barn, courtyards, gardens, woodland and surrounding countryside all forming part of the setting. The wedding barn itself combines traditional stone walls and timber features with a more modern feel, making it a versatile space for both ceremonies and receptions.

I’ve photographed quite a few weddings here and one of the big attractions of Calcot Manor weddings is that it feels like much more than simply a wedding venue. With accommodation across the estate, couples and their guests can stay together and make a proper weekend of it. There are rooms and suites in the manor, cottages and even luxury treehouses, while the spa provides another option for relaxing before or after the celebrations.

The 220-acre estate also gives you plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the Cotswold countryside. There are rewilded areas, meadows and trails to explore, creating a lovely backdrop for photographs and a chance for guests to enjoy the surroundings between the main parts of the day.

Another bonus is the location. Calcot Manor is just four miles from Tetbury, making it easy to reach while still feeling tucked away in the countryside. It’s also within easy reach of the M4 and M5, which is handy when you’re bringing guests together from different parts of the country.

Best for: Couples looking for a stylish Cotswold wedding venue near Tetbury, with beautiful countryside, a historic barn, luxury accommodation, spa facilities and enough space to turn the wedding into a proper weekend celebration.

20 – Mickleton Hills Farm – Chipping Campden

Wedding party (everyone) on the steps with their hands in the air (like they don't care) at Mickleton Hills Farm.
If you’re looking for a Cotswold barn wedding venue near Chipping Campden, Mickleton Hills Farm offers something a little different. Set across 40 acres of Gloucestershire countryside, the venue combines restored farm buildings, beautiful open spaces and a wonderfully relaxed rural setting. What makes Mickleton Hills Farm particularly interesting is its three-day wedding experience. Rather than simply turning up on the morning of your wedding, couples have exclusive use of the venue across the weekend, giving them time to arrive, settle in, decorate, rehearse and properly enjoy the experience with family and friends. The venue includes several distinct spaces, including the 18th-century red-brick Grain Barn, which is licensed for civil ceremonies, and an oak-framed Dining Barn for the wedding breakfast and celebrations. There are also courtyards and plenty of outdoor space for drinks, lawn games and enjoying the Cotswold countryside.

Accommodation at Mickleton Hills Farm

One of the big advantages is the on-site accommodation. There are four individual cottages within the grounds, sleeping up to 12 guests in total. They include The Wool Store honeymoon cottage, Shepherd’s Snug, Lamb’s Lodge and Ewe Cottage, giving couples and close family the option to stay right at the venue. The cottages also make the three-day format work particularly well. Guests can arrive before the wedding, spend time together on the Friday, celebrate on Saturday and enjoy a slower Sunday morning before heading home.

A wedding weekend in the Cotswolds

Mickleton Hills Farm is only around four minutes from Chipping Campden, so although the venue feels tucked away in the countryside, you’re close to one of the Cotswolds’ most famous towns. The Heart of England Way also runs through the grounds, providing countryside walks straight from the accommodation. The venue offers couples considerable freedom too, including the ability to choose their own suppliers and caterer. That makes it particularly appealing if you want a wedding that feels personal rather than following a fixed formula. For smaller celebrations, Mickleton Hills Farm also offers a one-day Thursday wedding package, with exclusive use from 7am to 7pm and a maximum of 80 guests. Best for: Couples wanting a relaxed Cotswold wedding weekend near Chipping Campden, with exclusive use, beautiful countryside, flexible spaces and accommodation right on the doorstep. A few final thoughts from me…

So there you have it — 20 wedding venues in Gloucestershire that are well worth having a look at if you’re planning your wedding. And before anyone points it out… no, this definitely isn’t all of them! Gloucestershire has an impressive number of fantastic wedding venues, from grand country houses and historic hotels to barns, farms and completely unique spaces.

As a wedding photographer based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph weddings at many different venues across the county and the wider Cotswolds over the past 19 years.

My photography is very much natural, relaxed and storytelling. I spend most of the day floating around, photographing not just the two of you but your family and friends too — capturing the hugs, laughter, reactions, madness and all those little moments that make your wedding yours.

I’ll always make time for the important family photographs and some relaxed photographs of the two of you, but I’m not interested in taking you away from your guests for hours. The photographs should fit around your wedding, not the other way around.

If you’re planning a wedding at one of these venues — or somewhere completely different — and you’re looking for a photographer who’ll keep things relaxed and let you enjoy the day, I’d love to hear from you.

You can have a look through more of my wedding photography, check out my 5-star Google reviews, or simply get in touch for a chat about your plans.

Remember, it’s your wedding day and not a photoshoot.
